This photograph shows Baba Amte with Deputy Chief Minister of the state of Maharashtra, Mr. R.R. Patil. Mr. Patil once said that when he retired from public service, he would like to live in Anandwan and serve people. He visits Baba quite often. I was present when he came to Anandwan in December 2004, and though I'm pretty cynical about politicians, he struck me as a different kind of politician. I don't have enough information to be certain, but I think he may actually be one of those rare politicians who cares about the people.
